Colonel Gale E. Demaree, U.S. Army (Ret), passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the House of Three in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born to Floyd Evan Demaree and Tillie Dorothy Kokes Demaree on January 4, 1931 in Burwell, Nebraska.
Gale attended K-12 in Burwell Public Schools. At the University of Nebraska he received a BS in Pharmacy and an MS in Pharmacology. During the 30 years he was in the Army Medical Service Corp, he received an MS in Public Health from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Alabama.
Gale married his high school sweetheart, Helen Thomas, on August 10, 1952.
After retirement in 1979, Gale and Helen moved to Bentonville, Arkansas. Singing Barbershop was a big part of Gale’s life, as he participated in chorus and quartet singing. He was a chapter and district officer. Other hobbies were bowling and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Helen’s niece, Julie Adriany.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Helen; Helen’s family, niece, Jayne Verostek (Marty); nephews, Jeffrey Fraas and James Fraas; great niece, Joeli Streeter; great-nephews, Jason Verostek, Charles Verostek and Paul Verostek; several cousins and many friends.
He was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A celebration of Gale’s life in song will be at 2:00PM Friday, September 20, 2019 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Chapel in Rogers. Full military honors will be provided.
