Douglas Duane Moody, 76, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at his home Friday, February 28, 2020. He was born March 23, 1943 in Syracuse, Kansas to Harris Ward Moody and Esther Freida Anna Hempler Moody.
He was a humble cheerleader who loved airplanes and always planted smiles on the faces of those around him. He lifted everyone up and made each person feel special. He spoiled every dog that was in his life. He loved to hunt pheasants, fish in a mountain stream or enjoy a leisurely round of golf in his younger years. Growing up in Norton, Kansas he was a budding entrepreneur, named Newspaper Carrier of the Year at a very young age.
He was raised with his sisters and brother in Norton, where he was an outstanding student and athlete, lettering in football, basketball and track. He attended college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he was involved in ROTC. He returned to work in Norton and then in Wichita, Kansas where he spent many years in the aviation industry. He used his entrepreneurial skills at Lee Products Engineering Services Inc., transitioning a small airplane parts distributorship to an aerospace engineering services company. He and Sue found their happy place in Bella Vista.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sue Moody; four children, Gayla (Max) Parks of Kearney, MO, Bob (Vicki) Thomas of Colleyville, TX, Mark Thomas of Midland, MI and Eric (Yezmin) Thomas of Derby, KS; siblings, Deanna Fine, Connie (Leon) Stromer, and Terry (Kathy) Moody; grandchildren, Mitchell (Wendy) Parks, Meg (Drew) Yarkosky, Katy (Brent) Neary, Brittney Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Josh Thomas, Carter Thomas, Zara Thomas and Zach Thomas; great-grandchildren, Clara Yarkosky, Flora Parks and Bowen Yarkosky; dear nieces and nephews, and his beloved canine companion, Lacy.
